European platform
HelioBiotec
Explore the potential of microalgae for biofuel and green chemistry
Context
The HelioBiotec partnership research platform was created in 2009 as part of a State-Region Plan Contract involving funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Regional Delegation for Research and Technology (DRT), the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region and the French Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA).
Its ambition is to serve as an anchor for the establishment of a scientific and technological center of excellence in the PACA region on bioenergy.
More than twenty scientists in the field of biotechnology are working together on sustainable energy production.
Located on the Cité des Energies site, HelioBiotec benefits from the research skills of the CEA’s Fundamental Research Department, the CNRS and the University of Aix-Marseille, and is adjacent to CEA Tech’s TRL microalgae cultivation platform, which is more focused on technological developments for the definition and proof of concept of industrial microalgae production processes.
Labeled by the European network of IBISBA platforms and member of the European IBISBA infrastructure project for industrial biotechnology.
